Tennis elbow, also known as lateral epicondylitis, is a condition which efforts the outer aspect of the elbow can cause pain and tenderness. It is either acute (new) or chronic (over time) inflammation of the tendons of the muscles on the outside of the elbow.
Signs and symptoms
- Pain on the outside of the elbow
- Pain on gripping and movements, especially wrist extension
- Pain on activities such as lifting objects, with palm facing down
A multi-faceted approach combining pain relief, manual therapy with specific exercises has shown to have the best results for treatment. More invasive treatments are not often needed and symptoms settle.
Golfers Elbow, also known as medial epicondylitis, is a condition of the inner aspect of the elbow. It is less common than Tennis Elbow, yet has similar presentation, but the pain is at a different location.
